My First Rag Quilt - Finished!

Moda AVIARY Raq QuiltI finished my first rag quilt this past weekend. And I gave it to my friend, who loved it. It was so easy. You really just cut squares of fabric, batting and flannel. Quilt them with an X. Sew them into rows. Sew the rows together. Clip all seams. Then wash and dry.
I used a Moda AVIARY Layer Cake (plus a bit of extra Aviary fabric, as I wanted to make the quilt longer), pink flannel for the back, and batting.

My First Rag Quilt

Moda AVIARY Raq Quilt
Today, I started my first rag quilt, for a friend of mine who is very sick. I've always wanted to make a rag quilt, but never got around to it. So, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.
I am using a Moda AVIARY Layer Cake, pink flannel for the back, and batting.
So far, I have cut the flannel and batting into squares. And I have the 10" squares from the layer cake. So, next, I sew/quilt all of the squares. Then sew them together. And then trim the seams to make the ragged edges.
I found this information about rag quilting helpful. It seems pretty simple. We'll see if it really is that simple. Hopefully, I'll post in the next few days a picture of a finished rag quilt.

Mother's Day Quilt

I made this quilt for my Mom for Mother's Day. It went together easily and it took me no time at all to finish. It was fun and she loves the bright colors.

I used Moda's Fresh Layer Cake and Jelly Roll. The pattern is called Paint Box by Sandy Gervais for Pieces From My Heart.
